This is without a doubt the perfect 16-day vacation for those who have been introduced to Europe already and want longer stays with some free time to explore on their own. You’ll have a full day at leisure in London, Paris, and Rome. Sightseeing includes visits to St. Paul’s in London, to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, to St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doges’ Palace with its Bridge of Sighs in Venice, to Michelangelo’s David in Florence, and to the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, St. Peter’s, and the Sistine Chapel in Rome. Extra features are a picture stop at the Leaning Tower of Pisa, an exciting ride on the high-speed Eurostar train from London to Paris, and a spectacular ride over 6,935-foot-high Gotthard Pass in Switzerland.

Itinerary: Tour From the Thames to the Tiber   London/Rome

Day 1 Board your overnight transatlantic flight

.Day 2 Arrival in London, England. Uniformed Globus Hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.

Day 3 London. Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks: Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace. Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL and the ceremonial pageantry of the Changing of the Guard, if held. Afternoon free for an optional excursion to the Tower of London. An evening cruise on the River Thames might also be fun. (FB)

Day 4 At Leisure in London. A whole day for shopping in Mayfair and Knightsbridge,
extended walks in London’s magnificent parks, or an excursion to Royal Windsor. Later maybe a show at one of the West End’s great theaters? (FB)

Day 5 London-Paris, France. Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and transfer to the railway station to board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to Paris, the splendid capital of a beautiful country. Tonight join your Tour Director for a toast to happy touring. (FB)

Day 6 Paris. Discover the world capital of chic and style with a Local Guide and admire its most famous sights: Arc de Triomphe, Opéra, Madeleine, Louvre, and Champs Elysées. for a panoramic view take the elevator to the second floor of the EIffEL TOWER. Balance of the day at leisure. Tonight a lively cabaret show might be just the ticket. (BB)

Day 7 At Leisure in Paris. Another day to enjoy what this extraordinary metropolis has to offer. Optional excursions to the lavish baroque Palace of Versailles and the Louvre Museum can be arranged. (BB)

Day 8 Paris-Lucerne, Switzerland. Enjoy a comfortable ride on the highway skirting fontainebleau forest and the vineyards of Burgundy to the Swiss border. Enjoy vistas of the Swiss Alps as you arrive in picture-book Lucerne. (BB,D)

Day 9 Lucerne. Admire Thorwaldsen’s LION MONUMENT on your walking tour of the Old Town, and cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Afterwards shop for Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a mountain by cable car, take a cruise on the fjord-like lake, or sign up for a folklore party with yodeling and alphorn blowing for a first hand impression of Alpine merrymaking. Day 10 Lucerne-Lugano-Venice, Italy. Drive across the 6,935-foot St. Gotthard Pass from the German to the Italian part of Switzerland. After a lunch break in the lakeside resort of Lugano, cross the Italian border and drive past Milan to Venice, a glittering maze of islands, canals, and bridges. Tonight is your chance to sample the city’s fine restaurants. (BB)

Day 11 Venice. Enter in style by PRIVATE BOAT to meet your Local Guide. Highlights of your walking tour are ST. MARK’S SQUARE and the BYZANTINE BASILICA, lavish DOGES’ PALACE, and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Also watch skilled GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate objects in an age-old traditional manner. Then enjoy Venice at your own pace or join an optional gondola ride. (BB,D)

Day 12 Venice-Pisa-Florence. Morning drive through the Apennine Hills to Tuscany. Highlight today is the amazing Leaning Tower of Pisa, 180 feet high and no less than 12 feet out of the perpendicular. In Florence, cradle of the Renaissance, time to explore on your own or to soak up the timeless beauty of the city and shop for florentine leather goods and gold jewelry. (BB,D)

Day 13 Florence-Rome. Follow your Local Guide to visit the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo's celebrated David, the magnificent CATHEDRAL, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistry’s heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and sculpture studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. In the afternoon enjoy views of the vine- and olive-clad Tuscan hills, home of the popular Chianti wines, on your way to the Eternal City. (BB)

Day 14 Rome. Sightseeing with your Local Guide starts with a visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL, world famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling paintings and The Last Judgement. Continue to monumental ST. PETER’S SQUARE and BASILICA. Cross the Tiber and visit the COLOSSEUM and the ROMAN FORUM, where Roman Legions marched in triumph. Then time for independent activities and exciting optional excursion possibilities. (BB)

Day 15 At Leisure in Rome. Another day to savor la dolce vita. Tonight, why not join an optional farewell dinner with local specialties and wine at one of Rome’s fine restaurants? (BB)
