This is the ideal 13-day trip for those who prefer an in-depth Western Europe experience. Enjoy a fast Eurostar train ride from London to Brussels, a canal cruise in Amsterdam, a scenic Rhine cruise, and stops in Cologne, in the old university town of Heidelberg, and in medieval Rothenburg. In Munich, your guided city tour includes the lively Marienplatz. Drive through the Bavarian and Tyrolean Alps where you visit Innsbruck in Austria, and Vaduz, capital of Liechtenstein. After a relaxing two-night stay in Lucerne in the Swiss Alps, the vacation ends in Paris with a visit to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower.

Itinerary: Tour Heart of Europe   London/Paris

Day 1 (Fri.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2 Arrival in London, England. (Sat.) Uniformed Globus Hosts are available to help you make the most of your stay.

Day 3 London. (Sun.) Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes all the famous landmarks: Knightsbridge with Harrods, the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben beside the River Thames, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall’s mounted horseguards and the Prime Minister’s Downing Street, and Buckingham Palace. Highlights are a visit to ST. PAUL’S CATHEDRAL and the ceremonial pageantry of the Changing of the Guard, if held. Time in the afternoon for independent activities. Optional excursions are available to the Tower of London and to Windsor Castle. Tonight maybe a leisurely cruise on the River Thames? (FB)

Day 4 London-Brussels, Belgium-Amsterdam, Holland. (Mon.) Meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and transfer to the railway station to board the EUROSTAR TRAIN to Brussels, Belgium. From here a comfortable drive will bring you to Amsterdam, Holland. Enjoy a CANAL CRUISE with a Local Guide, to see the patrician mansions, gabled façades and humpback bridges, and hear about the history of the 700-year-old capital. Tonight a welcome dinner is included at your hotel. (FB,D)

Day 5 At Leisure in Amsterdam. (Tue.) Start the day with a visit to a major DIAMOND CENTER and appreciate how a rough mineral is transformed into a sparkling jewel. Balance of the day is at leisure to explore the lively center, and later you may wish to join an optional excursion to Volendam. (BB)

Day 6 Amsterdam-Heidelberg, Germany-Rhineland. (Wed.) A passing glance at the Dutch region best known as the locale of A Bridge Too Far on the way to the German Rhineland. During your break in Cologne, visit the awesome twin-spired GOTHIC CATHEDRAL. Then the afternoon’s highlight: a romantic RHINE CRUISE past castle-crested cliffs, terraced vineyards, and trim, half-timbered towns. Next stop is Heidelberg, Germany’s oldest university town of Student Prince fame and renowned for its red-walled castle. (BB,D)

Day 7 Rhineland-Rothenburg-Munich. (Thu.) Focus on fabulous Rothenburg with its ramparts and towers, cobbled lanes, and 16th-century houses. Time for sightseeing and lunch before you drive along the Romantic Road towards the Danube Valley and Munich. You may want to join an optional outing to try Bavarian specialties tonight. (BB)

Day 8 Munich. (Fri.) Sightseeing with a Local Guide includes the Olympic Stadium, 1,000-foot-high Television Tower, Nymphenburg Palace, MARIENPLATZ with the Old and New Town Hall, and the Gothic Frauenkirche. Afternoon at leisure. (BB,D)

Day 9 Munich-Innsbruck, Austria-Liechtenstein-Lucerne, Switzerland. (Sat.) Stunning mountain views all along the road from Bavaria to the Austrian Tyrol. In Innsbruck take a pleasant stroll through quaint medieval lanes to Emperor Maximilian’s GOLDEN ROOF. Afternoon break is in the pocket-sized principality of Liechtenstein. Spend the next two nights in Lucerne in the Alpine heart of Switzerland. Why not sign up for a folklore party with yodeling and alphorn blowing for a firsthand impression of Alpine merrymaking? (BB)

Day 10 Lucerne. (Sun.) Admire Thorwaldsen’s LION MONUMENT and the ornate patrician houses lining the cobbled streets of the Old Town, then cross the famous covered CHAPEL BRIDGE to the Jesuit Church. Afterwards shop for Swiss watches and choose from our optional activities: climb a mountain by cable car or take a cruise on the fjord-like lake. (BB,D)

Day 11 Lucerne-Paris, France. (Mon.) Cross the border into France and enjoy a comfortable ride on the modern highway, skirting the vineyards of Burgundy and Fontainebleau Forest. Tonight you are in Paris, the traditional climax of every European tour. (BB)

Day 12 Paris. (Tue.) Discover the world capital of chic and style with a Local Guide and admire its most famous sights: the Opéra, Arc de Triomphe, Champs-Elysées, Notre Dame Cathedral, and more. For a bird’s-eye view take the elevator to the second floor of Paris’ most famous landmark, the EIFFEL TOWER. An optional excursion to the lavish baroque Palace of Versailles is available. Tonight, a lively cabaret show might just be the ticket. (BB)

Day 13 (Wed.) Your homebound flight from Paris arrives the same day. (BB)
